What is Somatic Healing?

Somatic healing is a form of therapy that focuses on the connection between the mind and body. It’s a holistic approach that aims to treat physical, mental and emotional health issues by releasing stress, tension, and trauma from the body. Unlike traditional talk therapy, Somatic therapy incorporates physical modalities such as Dance, Breathwork, and Meditation to support mental healing. Energetic Body Processes are a specialty modality that also facilitate Somatic Healing. Practitioners that have walked a healing journey themselves can facilitate this deep type of healing of Mind & Body.

Key Principles:

The mind and body are intrinsically linked, and trauma and negative emotions can become trapped in the body. The body stores memories and emotions on a cellular level, and releasing these stored emotions can lead to healing. Somatic therapy helps individuals heal on a cellular level by releasing pent-up tension and trauma from the body.

Practitioners of Somatic therapy believe that: A person’s negative emotions, such as those experienced during a traumatic event, can stay locked inside the body if not released in a timely manner. If not released, these negative emotions can turn into psychological disorders or physical problems, such as chronic pain.

The body is the foundational point for healing, and Somatic therapy can help individuals restore their mind-body connection.

Somatic therapy can be used to treat a range of mental health issues, including:

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Anxiety Depression
  • Trauma
  • Chronic pain
  • Emotional neglect

By releasing stored tension and trauma from the body, Somatic therapy can help individuals experience a range of benefits, including:

  • Reduced anxiety and stress
  • Improved emotional regulation
  • Enhanced physical well-being Increased sense of calm and relaxation
  • Improved mental clarity and focus

Overall, Somatic healing is a holistic approach that recognises the interconnectedness of the mind and body and seeks to promote healing and well-being by releasing stored trauma and tension from the body.
